On December 12, 2008 the Milwaukee Building Trades called an community informational picketing at the Hyatt Regency Hotel at 333 W. Kilbourn Avenue, Milwaukee. This hotel is doing a major renovation and they did contract this out to a firm from Virginia, Digney York Construction. This firm is using out of town labors at 50% of the wages and similar benefits. We believe such work should be down by local workers who reinvest into our community. Contact the Hyatt and tell them they are morally wrong.
Can anyone guess why the Hyatt would be using lower-wage workers with fewer benefits? Could the "worst economic crisis since the Great Depression" have something to do with it? Who can fault the Hyatt for being frugile in these economic times.
