  • The solo IS Deep Freeze. On Rocka Rolla, Winter is the first sung part of the trilogy, and Winter Retreat is the third sung part of the trilogy. KK's solo is in the middle. And if you look at the writing credits, Halford / Downing is on Winter and Winter Retreat...Deep Freeze only has Downing listed.

  • @theDML2112 Yes, I figured that out earlier, just didn't bother to change the title. Anyways, the songs are separated wrong on my cd.

  • I always thought the extended solo was deep freeze, not winter retreat. What part of the winter sweep is deep freeze then?

  • Thats what I thought all the time too, the logical split of the three songs. But I checked with my cd before I wrote the title, and the solo was during the winter retreat part. But when I thought about it later again, I concluded with a wrong splitting of the songs in the cd. But who cares, it's just names.

  • THAT'S DEEP FREEZE!!! Do you know how hard I've tried to find this??!!! The night before the concert back in '82 I dreamed K.K. played this song, and i spent the whole concert screaming for IT instead of vengeance!!!

Thanx for making a dream come true!!!

Not Winter Retreat, it's Deep Freeze!!!

  • Deep Freeze is an actual song with riffs and vocals, Winter Retreats is the KK improv solo.

  • I really wish that they had used the riff from this version of the song as the main riff in the studio version.

  • Good backing vocals from Glenn here.

  • Great to hear this interpretation of Island Of Domination and (indeed) Deep Freeze.

  • Gresat to hear this interpretation of Island Of Domination and (indeed) Deep Freeze.

  • Interesting times, those seventies...

  • Halford's voice is amazing in this song--the way he switches between different vocal styles. This is one of the finest heavy metal songs ever--an underrated gem! The lyrics and musicianship are top line. I believe this song is about how aliens invade the and conquer the earth and place humans in a huge concentration camp where the aliens experiment on them--the "Island of Domination!". This island is a huge, mechanical landmass that the aliens have placed in one of our oceans.

  • kk,use to go see hendrix play live, thats what u here when he plays.

  • Wow!!!!! Thanks for posting this rarity. I was just thinking of "Island Of Domination" today and typed it in on a whim and was pleasantly surprised to find it here.

Old Priest is the best stuff there is.
