Genbukan Ninjutsu appears in the Discovery Channel. Shoto Tanemura Soke of the Genbukan
@leogets2006...........It was at two different periods in time, I was in the bujinkan from 86-93 and then left the bujinkan to go to the genbukan ever since 93. So it was not at the same time.

@leogets2006 "Tatara magazine page 6.
John Lindsey in an interview with Tanemura S asks: "Did Takamatsu S always call it Togakure ryu?":
"Not at first. When he was associated with the Kuki family he planed to introduce Kukishin Ryu Ninpo in the form of scrolls and densho. But after the war he distanced himself from the Kuki family and decided not to do this. then he met Hatsumi S. and Fukumoto s. Takamatsu S.i decided to teach them Ninpo. That is when he decided to use the name Ninpo."

@FUDOSHINN thats odd.you say you hold dan rank in both systems.(bujinkan and genbukan) did you have to keep this a secret to each organisation? because my sensei told me its disrepectfull to the grand masters to train in both because of their fall out the cousins had ,as to which was the correct way of teaching ninjutsu..

From what I hear, the training in the Bujinkan is very relaxed and playful without much on etiquette, however in Genbukan, training is conducted in the traditional way with emphasis on manners and executing techniques as if you were actually looking to seriously hurt someone (obviously still being very careful as the techniques were designed to maim or kill people). Also the grading is more structured in Genbukan than Bujinkan.

@FUDOSHINN That's really interesting. I started in the Bujinkan about 5 months ago and I am a 7th kyu, although I still feel I do not have the skill level to even call myself a green belt. In my opinion I feel there is some structure lacking with the grading system because I was randomly given my grades and that's why I'm setting my sights on Genbukan instead. From what I keep hearing, Genbukan training places massive emphasis on manners and the training is more hardcore.

@cauelira16
actually because the 2 of them are both adaptions of takamatsu-den, and because takamatsu has never provided any evidence for his claims to "ninjutsu"... we can safely say that genbukan and bujinkan, do not teach ninjutsu.
if you would like to prove me wrong, please provide any evidence for takamatsu's claims to ninjutsu, or if it is easier this way... just provide any historical source predating takamatsu that indicates ninjutsu being or including MA/budo/taijutsu...
have fun
