man slides off devil's slide cliff & survives to tell his story.
The driver of a car that went off a cliff at Devil's slide has a bump on the head but no serious damages following a dramatic rescue involving a number of local rescue agencies.
The man says he was driving north on Highway One from Santa Cruz to San Francisco when his car left the roadway and plunged about 150 feet down a steep cliff. Authorities say he had his seatbelt on and the vehicle landed on its wheels. He called 911 for help but it took rescuers almost 45 minutes to find him in dense fog.
When the vehicle was located, it took rescuers from the CHP, Coastside Fire Department, San Mateo County Sheriff's Department, Pacifica Fire Department, and Calfire about an hour and forty-five minutes to rappel down the side of the steep cliff, get him out of his car, and loaded onto a caged metal stretcher and lifted him to safety.
CHP spokesman Trent Cross says rescuers put a neck brace on the victim as a precaution but his only injury consisted of a minor bump to the head. No rescuers were hurt.
