    4th verse is about Nasa's mission to the moon in 1950, and about the space station and the research that is happening, and the church is afraid of the progress that science is making an its dwindling support.

    This is just my opinion and what I can get from the lyrics.

    Ok I know this song is about human history and progress.

    1st verse is about Galileo and his quarrels with the church that lead to his house arrest and having to retract all he had discovered.

    2nd verse is about that knowledge spreading to Greece where they had many gods to explain many things, and it was as if they were trying to guess gods name.

    3rd verse I'm guessing its about the Roman empire or Napoleon and their downfall.
