@insanema89@insanema89 Exactly! I personally am not in the military.. BUT I do have PPD'S that we train every week at Camp Pendleton. We train with MWD'S. The trainer works the kennel on base. No matter how much we tell people that these dogs are 100% different from the average k-9, an need to be worked in such manners, they wont get it. Also MWD'S have an even more intense job then police k-9's. You have to be able to control when these MWD'S need to be loud or quiet for many reasons!
@IndigoCat17 no it is not animal abuse its a tactic to keep the dog quiet when looking for a suspect. we do not abuse our mwd's what so ever, i mean shit they live a better life than most ppl do. when the dog is lookin for someone and keeps barkin we pull the collar to keep said dog quiet to the suspect cant locate our position
Realistically whether a dog barks or not isn't abuse. The barkless Basenji was genetically engineered not to bark. But if the dog was crossed with an anaconda it would have many razor sharp teeth and would constrict its' victim. Accept that 99 % of other dogs lead normal lives and sleep on our beds at night. Porthos from Enterprise fame wasn't really abused.
That dog has had his vocal cords cut... Why would that be done? Were they wanting the dog to not bark ? Just a little curious because when working the handler must hear the dog barking to let them know someone/something has been found.
