The International Artist/Teacher Exchange (IATE) provides an opportunity for Maryland educators to obtain George Mason University graduate credit through professional development training in arts integration that focuses on the arts and culture of Italy. Participants join a cohort of teachers, administrators, and educators from Collegio San Carlo in Milan for this cross-cultural and cross-curricular experience. They tour the country, experience its arts and culture, work with Italian artists and then develop lesson plans based on their experience that they then implement in the classroom. Twenty-eight participants attended the 2009 program, which included visits to Riccione, Assisi, Urbino, Rimini, Verucchio and Cervia.
