I have never read any of the writings of Menno Simons, but my understanding is that the excommunication was for sins such as adultery and the like. It was not for heretical beliefs.
Whatever the case, the important point of the clip (and sermon) is practicing non-violence. Simons is absolutely in that camp (which is in line with the teachings of Christ).
There are indeed heresies out there that should be rejected, but not with violence.

Quite the revisionism. Shane Hipps has never read Menno Simons, the man for whose theology Mennonites are named. He certainly had a category with broad qualifications for heretics. Excommunication, rigid excommunication, instead of execution was the solution for these people.
