Frank Leder & Kai von Rabenau: The Ultimate Fanzine

Frank Leder could be considered the best kept secret in germany´s fashion landscape. Not
that Frank has any regrets about that - he rather chose it that way, doing his own thing since
he graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. It was also in
England where he discoverd his german origin, since then the centre of his work. Well, kind of.

"I get inspiration from people and landscapes and try to translate it into modern collections",
says Frank. A think-twice intellectual mind who knows that every anwer is just the beginning of a new question, Frank never has been walking the beaten catwalk-path. He is no stranger in Japan, though, where his work is well known, having also led to collaborations with Rei
Kawakubo´s Comme des Garcons.

Not going the beaten path also relates to Kai von Rabenau, publisher of the interview magazine "Mono.Kultur". Each issue of this independent magazine is dedicated to one person: no advertisement, just pure content. But it doesn´t stop there. The frame, graphic and handling of the issue is related to the work and personality of the featured person, like the issue about the artist and scientist Sissel Tolaas which had twelve different smells on it. Or in it.

Since their launch in 2005, Kai and his team of enthusiasts have brought 30 issues to the day of light, featuring personalities like Ai Weiwei, Mirandy July, Dave Eggers or Dries van Noten. "In the beginning, I was upset that everyone was calling Mono.Kultur a fanzine", Kai laughs, "but in the end, it probably is the ultimate fanzine."
