We take Shamino's advice and head Northwest to Empath Abbey. Empath Abbey is one of the last bastions that uphold the old Virtues, but Lord Blackthorn has been pressing the Abbey's Lord Michael to abandon his resistance and join the oppression. In the abbey we also find a monk who is willing to heal Shamino's wounds, and 2 recruitable allies for our cause.

Ultima V: Lazarus is a very ambitious mod for the original Dungeons Siege that aims to recreate and enhance the classic game Ultima V: Warriors of Destiny. While the choice of the Dungeon Siege engine may seem odd, the Lazarus team has made quite a few enhancements to the engine that make the game feel a lot more like a true RPG than an action-RPG. Several parts of the plot have been reworked and the game now even features an "evil" ending. I never completed the original Ultima V (I really want to, but the game is just a tad too old for me to bear all the way to the end), but I can clearly see that this is a work of love by true fans of the original game.

Those interested in the game can get info and download it here:

I've also uploaded a compilation of bugfixes and minor enhancements that improve the game ever so slightly right here:

P.S.: I once again apologize for the terrible quality of the videos, but as you may know recording videos is very taxing on my low-end PC.

  • man i miss ultima...

  • @marklethanarkle Exactly. I visited the u5 Lazarus homepage, read up about the project, downloaded the appropriate files... and picked up a copy of Dungeon Siege.

I recommend this game to anyone who cares more about LONG story + characters & gameplay vs. "super-duper-uber" graphics and shooting everything in sight, lol.

  • Ultima V was hands down the best Ultima ever as far as story and game play goes. It was a very long involved game and playing it this way just makes it even better. A perfect combination :)

  • well, i just pretty much ripped throught Terraria, haha. so i might go ahead and get this next. gonna check Steam to see if they sell it there.

  • @marklethanarkle Right, it's a mod/total conversion. And... I be honest, I didn't know a THING about Dungeon Siege until the Ultima Lazarus mentioned it was required. All I can tell you is... it IS "oldschool" for graphical rendering... and I haven't even TOUCHED the original Dungeon Siege game at all. I *solely* bought it in order to play U5 Lazarus! :)

The U5 L designers give several reasons why they chose Dungeon Siege as a basis... but ultimately (pardon the pun), I just wanted U5 L!!

  • @greytale haha, point taken. so basically lazarus is a mod for dungeon siege? is DS an mmo? i've never heard of it before now.

  • @greytale so you got a copy of this game, from that link in the description?

  • @marklethanarkle Replaying Ultima V via the Lazarus project is possibly one of my favorite experiences in gaming ever...

The music is perfectly enchanting, keeping to the spirit of the original score VERY well... yet adding wonderful pieces... and the already brilliant storyline is strengthened by some seriously great new characters, dialogue, and plot points.

I may never play another game like this ever again... and it wouldn't surprise me, since Ultima V was truly a gem of epic proportions.
