  • @ttraver90 He a great player but not the least bit original. Possibly listening to more music and educating yourself will make more sense than arguing nonsensical points over the internet.

  • @jakeizlove your a huge hater because you cant do any of those things and your jealous because youve never seen anyone bring this intensity to blues music so can it homes

  • @MrDannyHanson No disrespect but anyone with serious blues listening time can tell where every lick he played came from. I think the guy is a great player, packages things well, is marketable as all poop, yet totally unoriginal.

There's a ton of stuff out there in the blues world, very little of it is original. This statement covers Clapton, and just about everyone else. :)

  • @jakeizlove I think john mayer is original. you get inspirations from many different people. the people you've mentioned were probably alot of john's inspirations.. thats what makes a great blues player- inspirations and old heroes. that's why he does what he does. he has turned it into his own style and put a twist on blues: with his guitar playing AND his vocals.

  • i have played for 40 years and john mayer whips some serious ass

  • @troybabcock21 never heard of him

  • @surfer1211 Otis Rush, Fenton Robinson, Albert King, Elizabeth Cotton, etc... Just listen around some and you'll hear a lot more. It's unlikely Robert Johnson ever personally collected a royalty.

I don't dislike Mayer at all and feel he's probably a better songwriter than given credit for. He's condensed licks from many great players and repackaged them into a format fit for commercial consumption. Good for him and if it gets kids playing real guitars instead of "Rock Band" (LOL!), even better!

  • @jakeizlove what artists are you talking about that had more relevancy yet died broke pretty much due to their lack of marketability (which IMO is such a bullshit category to judge someone on; it just proves how aesthetically founded we are as a society and for music as a corporation) There are a lot of brilliant players who will never see their dreams cause they don't please the audiences eyes. Music pleases the ears not the eyes IMO. But yeah I'd definitely love to hear some of these artists.

  • @jakeizlove everyone has their opinion and that happens to be mine. I'm sure yours is much different and I'm cool with that. Most others though would want to burn me at the stake for loving such a "SRV bitter or Hopeless Hendrix wannabe. When in fact JM has chops and can hold his own, much better than a lot of players. He's up there with the top of this generations Guitar Players. He will be a referenced legend when this generation passes; but I do understand that you feel he's overrated. Lastly

  • @jakeizlove I can see why you would think he's overrated and I respect that completely, especially since you do think that he is a good player. A LOT of people on YT bash him as Overrated yet have no reason for saying it other than jealousy or just dislike because of his "Hollywood," life (which is a bullcrap reason.) You on the other hand give an educated opinion. Like I said, he is my favorite artist by miles; I've listened to a lot of players and I just gravitate to his style above all others
