This is one of the first pieces I remember learning, and it has remained one of my favorites over the years.
This recording of Robert Schumann's "About Strange Lands and People" from his Scenes from Childhood (Op. 15, No. 1) was done on December 23, 2006.
Enjoy!

  • lol, Ive been looking on itunes forever to find the milo and otis version of this song =P

I agree though its much better when its slowed down :3

  • @777Lloyd777 I watched that movie so many times in my childhood that I thought that was how the song was supposed to sound! Thanks for listening! :)

  • If you like that kind of piano music, you would probably love Yiruma. He's amazing. He's a South Korean Composer and I came across him on youtube. He's now my absolute favorite composer. Check out his music it's beautiful. I think you'd really play it well. Some examples are - River Flows in You (my favorite), Love Me, and Do You? His music is repetitive, but absolutely beautiful. :)

  • @DMPiano I'm a huge fan of Yiruma. I quickly learned River Flows in You and recorded it (it's somewhere on my channel). And I'd love to learn more, since it's not that difficult and very beautiful. Do you have any of the sheet music?

  • this is the best version i found and i like it

    how long is it originally?

  • I'm not really sure how long it's supposed to be. I played it close to the speed at which it was played in "Milo and Otis," but other people play it a lot faster (in about half the time). I think a slightly slower way is sweeter, but I'm no expert!

  • I love this!! and you!

  • Story that's irrelevant to everyone but me.

Someone plays this in an episode of Star Trek Voyager, that I just saw. When I heard it, I relived scenes of my own piano-playing (including learning this piece) and I just had to find a recording of it. Thanks for posting. A lot of amateur recordings on Youtube are painful to listen to, but this one is quite pleasant.

  • @princess73535 its perfect!!!!

  • Lovely tune - first heard it played it in the movie " Sophie's Choice"- didn't know what it was until today when it got played again in the movie" What Doesn't Kill You"... am favoriting it... thanks for uploading .

  • thank you, it was very uplifting to hear such intensely sublime beauty.

  • Absolutely beautiful!!!
