  • We need much more of this kind of insightful, witty and class-conscious material on our TV and computer screens -- rather than the usual mind-numbing rubbish served up by bourgeois academe and (only marginally worse)the producers of 'programmes' like Big Brother and the X Factor!

  • more mark steel! mark steel for london mayor! mark steel should be king(not that i condone a a monarchy only i know he would go into it and impose socialist ideals and if not corupted by the wealth would overcome it to smash the system from within) yay for mark steel! and he has a nice leather jacket.

  • @wisesatyr72 And she's still alive-which means that she must have been MUCH younger than he was at their wedding.

  • @timlintimlin "Impose"? Haven't you tried "imposing socialist ideals" in other countries? With seriously unpleasant results?

  • this is fanstastic and all..but why is Ian Dowie on the opening credits at 0:17

  • A personal favorite from Mark Steel´s lectures. The intro portraying Iain Dowie amongst geniuses is genius

  • just wanted to agree with all the positive comments here :) I remember watching this while at university and it was fantastic - well delivered, insightful, engaging and entertaining. but most importantly i think it does so well to humanise all these icons. need much more TV like this

  • Charlie's last wife looks alot like Natalie Merchant..sweet puss

  • Chaplins finest moment is his anti-fascist speech at the end of The Great Dictator! where, unlike the real Hitler, Chaplin decides he doesnt want to conquer the world! and becomes the total opposite of the dictator he was!

  • I must have been under a rock somewhere. I'd never heard of Mark Steel until today. Thanks you so much for the upload. It's been a pleasure.

  • Thank you for this!
