There's only the universe, it's vast and virtually endless - but it has no plan for you and it doesn't care whether you do or do not eat pork, beef or fish on fridays, or whether you're a female and hence have to put a sack over your head.

It's possible there is a god that created the universe, and if there is, he either doesn't care about us, or he hasn't figured things out yet.

We are not speaking about the 'hypothesized' creators that are in Religions. They are referring to whatever began this existence, in other words 'created it'. There is a different outlook and belief of this creator for every person, but seeing the sole fact that we exist in a nearly perfectly functioning realm of existence speaks for itself.
