Declaring an emergency in this case, is just a precaution. It gives them priority over any other aircraft..
They requested the longer runway incase they had control issues (Such as flaps not deploying properly) Neediing extra braking distance, and the posibility of blowing a tire on touchdown or roll out.
Request for fire was most likely also due to the pos. of blowing a tire. or hot brakes due to the a faster then normal touch down.
Again, all just normal precautions.
