This comparison video shows how different the quality of the graphics and sound from the Arcade game to the home console port.

Note: This video was made for Gametrailers in 2007, I couldn't find Genesis (Mega Drive) footage of the game at the time, and excuse myself for misspelling the word "course".

  • i take the neo goe one

  • One advantage the SNES version had over the Neo-Geo was an extended ending and each character had a Desperation Attack.

  • That fucking reverb on the SNES one...

  • @MrDogatlarge Neo Geo games were $200 to $250 not $400+. Snes games were $50-$70.

  • @WizardOfWor Also.. if Neo Geo cost 50% less than costed before it would destroyed Nintendo in sellings...

  • Of course Neo Geo every single time, it's perfect 110% because it's the authentic original arcade version, Lol...can't get more perfect than that.

  • @kinziechem:

Yeah, those were the ONLY two things which made the SNES version stand out from the Neo Geo version. The Neo Geo version definitely tops the SNES/Genesis versions. If the Neo Geo version were to have those two things of what you mentioned that the SNES version had, the Neo Geo version would be absolutely perfect.

I know that SNES carts typically max out at 48 megs, but look at how the Neo Geo started using 'bank switching' in the late 90's to cram WAY more than just 330 megs into their games.

Being an old-school SNES fan, I've always speculated whether or not they could've gotten more megs into the carts and made better fighting games or longer RPGs.

  • @bullshooter4040

I agree, and Tales of Phantasia with the English patch actually contains 64 megs in the rom.

Do you think it might have been possible for them to cram 64 or even 128 megs into the SNES carts?

More available memory prolly could've allowed for better arcade-to home ports of some Neo Geo games (larger sprites/more voices), but what I suspect that was really holding the SNES back was the lack of having enough processor speed to handle all those megs if the carts had been that huge.

  • @OtomoTenzi

Probably. I know Star Ocean and Tales of Phantasia crammed in 48 Mbits of memory for those games, and if you play them on emulators they *almost* look like early playstation 2d RPGs.

  • @peonpiate

But wouldn't the SNES version have turned out to be a much better port if they could just cram like 32-64 megs in it?

I would've gladly paid $100 for it, and it would still be cheaper than buying the Neo Geo version.
