why is this song so ignored? It's great, one of the best by the mountain goats.

Also, when viewed in the context of the Alpha Couple, it's another omen of the inevitably bad outcome to their relationship, basically. "I dreamed of vultures / in the trees around our house / and locusts, and cicadas, and the shrieking of innumerable gibbons". "How long can we..." etc.
Darnielle likes to use contrary melodies for serious songs, but it comes off to me as more resigned than anything.

@blankwavemessiah Thanks a ton for uploading this song. I couldn't disagree with you more about Tallahassee, though!
I guess it depends more on where you're coming from. The pictures John paints are beautiful and ugly at once. Tallahassee is a narrative album for the Alpha Couple, who have their own complicated and ugly love/hate backstory that he explores. Check the liner notes.
LoTWTC is a great album too, don't get me wrong. Darnielle = lyrical gold no matter what he's doing.

I bought this CD years ago. On the whole, the album wasn't my cup of tea, but I always thought this song was incredible. I lent the CD to a friend and he loved it so much I just let him keep it. I was just strumming my guitar and inadvertently started playing this and knew it had to be on youtube somewhere. Thanks for putting it up.
yeah Tallahassee is real hit/miss with me. the songs i like, are among my very favorites. and the ones I'm not too into, i don't listen to that much. Life of the world to come is my shit! hahaha. thanks for stopping by
