Who Would Not Welcome One? (1922)

The Valentine's card, 1920s-style. Two British actresses put lips to paper in a demonstration of the so-called "Kiss Valentine", leaving a lipstick imprint of the loving smooch in favour of a more traditional card.

Evelyn Laye, then a major star of operettas, would enjoy a long and successful career, earning an OBE in 1973 and winning the resounding praise of Sir John Mills, who described her as "the fairest prima donna this side of heaven". Ruby Miller, a silent star, would survive the transition to sound and star in numerous comedies of the '30s and '40s. This film was made for the famous Topical Budget newsreel. (Alex Davidson)
