Who saying this doesn't sound like Burdon hasn't heard his solo stuff, or the reunion concert in '83. This is "Eric Burdon Band"

Eric Burdon has recorded this in 1973, California. Has nothing to do with Animals or War, it's THE ERIC BURDON BAND!

Thanks for that, which CD? Any idea when this track was made?

After removing the obvious distortioning, the vocal does NOT even resemble Eric (per voiceprint) interesting "version"--close, but no cigar

You may be right but I have the sleeve of the tape (a compilation of four) and it says "House of the Rising Sun - The Animals". The compilation is called "The British Rock Explosion" and this track is number three on side one. It was published by Music World - there is a number C5LUC-8006/3. I know most of the other artists and their songs well, and all are obviously genuine and the original single. This Animals track does stand out as not being the single version, but surely it is the Animals.

Looking at Wikipedia, there is no indication that the Animals did do an alternative album version, it specifically says they didn't put the song on an album. The conclusion has to be that dafney7798 is right and it is not the Animals. So has anyone any idea who it is that's singing?? It is on the British Rock Explosion tapes and all other tracks are genuine and by the original artists as stated, so seems strange that the Animals is the only one that's 'wrong'.

Great! Love this version of this song, never heard it before. Do you know when it was first released?

I have no idea when it was first released but guess this is an album version made around the same time as the single i.e. 1964.
