I snorkeled a lot around 1980-1985, there are coral in those area, but only a few limited species. They grow big and healthy. I haven't got back there for decades, hope they are doing good. Some coral grow well in HK, but all of them are brownish - yellow, not really attactive though.

What about the islands off plover cove reservior north of the Sai Kung pennisula? There are numerous small islands there. Are there corals?

I left HK for the US in 1975. At that time, HK was a middle-income place and few could have afforded the diving gear.

I was told wrongly that HK water is too cold for coral. It is colder than ideal but it seems the many coral can live down to 17 C, about 60F.

A large part of HK, the Sai Kung area, is still wilderness.

Not bad, not bad! Of course, HK is not Bali, but I never expected to find such things in the waters of a metropolis. I`m German, so you can imagine, that I seldom had the possibility for good dives.
