  • yes you are liable. when you sighn a w-4 you become liable. you are not required by law to sighn one and can cancell ir at any time a w-4 is a withholding agreement . file out a w4-T .

  • Actually, from what U had researched on the topic of withholding... the W-4 is a voluntary agreement... but more importantly, the money "withheld" is treated as an escrow fund and no tax is due and owing UNTIL one either files and self-assesses OR files for a complete refund of the money that was "on hold" in case there was in fact a federal tax due on or about April 15 of the following year.
