MORE Proof of evolution!
That one monkey looks Just like Kent Hovind....Sorry I didn't mean to insult the monkey, but the resemblance is uncanny

who is this more for the humans or the animals? the animals dont care. waste of time and money imo.

You're still comparing non-charitable spending to charitable spending. That is the distinction. IF someone has already decided to DONATE their time or money, I believe they ought to consider a poor child before a poor chimp.
And, yes, a poor child won't know if you spent $50 on a chimp instead of him, but he will know if you DID spend the $50 on him. I do believe he would understand and appreciate it far more than would the chimp. (Especially in the case of a Christmas gift lol.)

"... I will ALWAYS believe those resources can be better spent relieving human suffering and misery."
I agree.
But I could never criticize chimp-present-givers because that would make me a huge hypocrite (for reasons I gave in my previous response).
It makes no difference to the poor child whether the $50 dollars he DIDN'T get were spent on ski gear or on a chimpanzee.

"I sincerely wonder what it is that makes people think that giving CHARITY to chimps is just as worthy as giving charity to needy children."
I never said or implied that.
As for the rest of your reply, what does buying $50 worth of ski gear for oneself do for the Rwandan orphan that buying $50 gift for a chimpanzee wouldn't? It's all the same to his stomach and failing organs. That's why I feel this attitude in general (not yours personally) is due to ego.

But when you're giving your money to someone/something you have no personal connection to, it is my opinion (yes, just an opinion) that a GIFT is far more appreciated by a human being than an animal. (Imagine a poor child with no gifts on Christmas, feeling uncared for.)
I commend people for caring about animals and not wanting them to suffer. But with limited resources, I will ALWAYS believe those resources can be better spent relieving human suffering and misery.

I sincerely wonder what it is that makes people think that giving CHARITY to chimps is just as worthy as giving charity to needy children.
The difference between your examples and this one is charity. I have no objections to someone spending their money on rock climbing gear or spending their time watching a music video. Those things are done for themselves. I have no objections to spending $50 on a videogame for your nephew -- it's someone you know and care about.

Can't we care about both childen AND animals? I mean, humans are the ones who have destroyed the chimps' habitats and enclosed them in concrete prisons... why is it a one-or-the-other situation?

I wonder if the news dialog could get anymore cheesier.
helping chimps is like helping family only they may actually be thankful xD
