@oldjunkvet Yes really terrific !

@expos73 I have that one saved and listen to it every time I'm on you tube. No frills or effects just pure and sweet.

should be sung by a male Alto! still cracking though.

This woman is in another dimension from all the rest of the opera singers. Having said that, to hear a 10 year old girl sing this aria and match up note for note with Battle and Larmore is absolutely astounding. You expect an adult opera singer to do well with it, but not a child with no formal training.
Jackie Evancho may never sing in an opera, but her monstrous talent is undeniable.

@jamesings Glad I made my point. And I see You made a positive comment about Kathleen Battle who is my favorite soprano. But I would recommend you objectively check out the NPR performance of Jackie Evancho of this aria. Just piano accompaniment in an intimate radio studio. No pomp, just what I think is beautiful singing.

@expos73 I understand. People get upset when they see less than complimentary comments about their singer/artist. I feel Jackie can only get better as she matures.

@sunsdomain :-) By the way, it's a version -chacun á son gout.
And J. Larmore is/was really great in Orlando Furioso, in a role, maybe written to her..:-)

@jamesings I cant write proper English ! It's" threatening" not (treatening) as you spelled it. And if you were'nt such a dim bulb you would have realized I was only making the point that it drives Jackie Evancho fans crazy for anyone to say anything at all negative about her. If you had any sense of humor you would have realized my comment was "tongue in cheek" and not really threatening. If you dont believe me make a negative Jackie Evancho comment and you will see for yourself.

Expos73, I wonder why Youtube allow a treatening comment from piece of garbage like you. Jacki Evancho should just stay home and go to school and not sing to make millions from hearing squeeky little turp's voice. .Also learn how to write proper English.
The "Ombra mai fu" aria (A shade that was), is a reflexion of the destruction of nature. The trees being destroyed. That's why you see all the junk that we mankind have turned our Mother Earth into; the masterful creation of our Lord. Handel was right 200 years ago. About the music: profound, beautiful voice of this gorgeous mezzosoprano. Not very often talent and beauty go hand in hand.

Really, the air is just about Xerxes' favorite tree: "Never was there a shade of a tree more beloved and lovable, or more sweet." How could such a simple remark become such a celestially beautiful aria? Takes a genius like Handel! And having such a voice as Larmore's to interpret helps too :)
