  • I'm new to thin shell jackets. I've heard great things about arcteryx, but can I expect to be comfortable skiing downhill in -25 celsius? Is it the kind of jacket that requires a lot of layers underneath?

  • @scilabo - Skiing at -25c..you're hardcore! The Stingray is a "lightly insulated" Gore-Tex Soft Shell, which means it requires other layers under it to achieve your desired warmth. If you are skiing on-area (lifts) than you might be better off with one of our "insulated" Gore-Tex jackets such as the "Mako" or "Ventii" jackets, which have a layer of our Coreloft Insulation under the Gore-Tex. But, with appropriate base and mid-layers under the Stingray it can work at those temps too. ^SM

  • @ajt353- The The Sigma AR is warmer, but does not have the dexterity or breathability of the Vertical SV. The Vertical is better suited for the backcountry where you are frequently changing your gear- skins on and off, changing binding positions, in and out of a pack, etc. The sensitivity and dexterity of the Vertical is significantly better than the Sigma. Also the Vertical is more breathable which is important on the backcountry because you work harder. The Delta liner will not work well.

  • @9pt9 he's wearing an Atom LT Hoody most likely. It's an awesome jacket that layers really well.

  • What jacket does he have on underneath?

  • Bought this jacket, and while it wasn't -25c, I skied in total comfort. Phenomenal product.

  • @arcteryxequipmentinc Haha! Weather in Quebec can be pretty intense on those humid, windy winter days. Thanks for the reply!

  • I currently use the Sigma AR and I am looking to get the Vertical SV. Do the Vertical SV provide sufficient warmth. I don't want to sacrifice too much warmth by getting them. Also, could a Delta AR liner be used in place of the liner that comes with the Vertical SV to make the glove warmer?
