Hmmm.... maybe the battery meter is for when you use the DC-input on the side from, for example, use in a car or whatever...

nice machine! i wonder whats the reason for the batt indictor. did ever took apart the machine to check for some sort of batt terminal?

I have seen a Craig recorder on eBay before where the top part was exactly the same as this and the bottom part was smaller and plastic. It used batteries. So I believe the KIRK company took the top design from Craig.
