On a beautiful St David's Day A1 Class 4-6-2 No 60163 Tornado worked 08.35 London Victoria to Swansea,The St David's Day Cathedrals Express. The train is first seen climbing Westwards up Skewen Bank as it heads between Neath and Swansea. The empty train is then seen heading East through Briton Ferry hauled by 66097 with Tornado at the rear for watering and servicing at Margam Knuckle Yard, where we next see the rare sight of an A1 at Margam Marshalling Yard. The next view shows the A1 heading light engine near Llansamlet where it will re-join it's train at Swansea. Finally at dusk the train roars Eastwards on the return journey at Llansamlet abutments...I fantastic day out, and I hope you enjoy ...Bob

  • When that train was traveling in reverse, was Tornado pushing or was the Class 66 pulling?

  • @HereYouGoDev Tornado was being hauled by the 66 through the station...Bob

  • awesome stuff Bob, Was all amazing, love all the steam in the last clip, and tornado did look great in the Margam yard bit! Nice whistles too! Did you have a good time at WSR then? I did although the rain was a bit off putting on saturday but got some good captures anyway. 5*

  • Yes thanks Sam, got soaked through several times, gave up for a while yesterday afternoon, then caught a few at the end of the day, came back home this morning and will be uploading mine in the morning...Bob

  • Nice shots, rare to see steam trainsworking. Who does belongs this one to?

  • Thanks once again, believe it or not, this locomotive was built new in 2008 to a design that dates back to the 1930's. The locomotive is privately owned, and it took nearly 20 years to build it ....Bob

    Thanks and brilliant

  • Build a brand new steam locomotive, that's impressive; and I'm not surprised to took that long: I'm sure that a huge amount of hours, passion, money and trouble shooting has been put in it. Lucky owners now :) Best. VF

  • I would have loved to have Bob, but they usually prepare the train at Stewarts Lane Depot and I was passing on a train at the time.

  • Shame you weren't able to record it, and thanks for kind comments...Bob
