How to organize your speech with good structure
Often someone will give a speech with some good content but it will be hard to follow. I can show you by example what I mean.
Memorise these 2 series of numbers. Write them down without looking at them.
7 6 2 5 1 8 10 9 3
1 2 3 5 6 7 8 9 10
You probably found that the second series of numbers was easier to remember even though they were the same numbers (the numbers 1 to 10 with 4 missing). Why were they easier to remember? Because they were in a logical order.
A good way to make sure your speech has a logical flow is to write the main points of your speech on separate pieces of paper, cards or post-it notes. When these points are written down work out the most logical order in which they should go.
Different types of logical order might be
Chronological
This is where the topic is arranged by time. For example, if you're giving a speech about your life a good structure would be: * where you where born * where you grew up * where are you now.
Problem Solving
In this structure if you are writing a speech about "the problem of world poverty" a good structure would be: * Define world poverty * Explain how widespread the problem is * What should be done about it? * A call to action making a suggestion to your audience telling them what they can do about it
Smart guy, simple and effective.
