This is video prior to candling my lovebirds eggs. Houdini layed her first egg on 1/16/10 and had a total of five. Lovebird eggs take about 22-25 days to incubate and you are supposed to be able to candle them as early as 8 to 12 days. I posted video of me candling one of the non-fertile and the one possible fertile eggs.
This is her first clutch of eggs this year and after candling them all but one appear to be fertile. When I candle the eggs I find that using a mini maglite flashlight in a dark area of the room works best. I do this at night as the lovebirds are sleepy and don't seem to mind it much. I make sure to wash my hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap and/or OxyFresh Cleansing Gele. I also will only candle each egg for a very short period of time to make sure there are no drastic changes in temperature etc.
@dayzv83 Congrats on the egg! Do you know if you have a male and female or have you seen them mating prior to her laying the egg? I would try to leave the female to tend to her egg. Generally, the females during breeding season and especially after laying can be a little agressive/protective of their cage.
