It's Summer, and that means fireworks in Japan. The biggest fireworks show is held in Tokyo Bay, in front of the Rainbow Bridge. From Joe's balcony, we can't see much of the fireworks themselves, but I thought it would be interesting to see all the little boats line up to watch them.
We needed to start shooting before dusk, so in an experiment to get around the huge change in light conditions, we used two cameras side-by-side — one with a stack of ND filters and one without. I then cross-dissolved the two resulting timelapse clips at the dusk point.
The result is far from perfect. It's pretty much impossible to get two different cameras to frame the scene exactly the same. And of course applying any transition effects in iMovie is going to hurt output quality. But it was a kind of fun little experiment and the boats are cute.
