A few years ago on the last night of a 3 week fling through Europe, we stayed at a flea bag hotel near Victoria Station. The Loo was on the top floor. I trudged up there at 2 AM opened the little window and leaned out. Now I'm a 50 some year old construction man, but all I could think was "On the roof tops of London...What a sight! Chim Chee Chim Cheroo"
I wish they slowed down the whole song. I think it'd be a lot less in step with the movie (less silly). It's a sad song, perhaps someone should re-do it. Dunno, I still love it, though.
The song is better, I think, without seeing Van Dyke traipsing around. It's actually quite a soulful song and the contrast with the movie is incongruous. Of course, we have people getting high and floating around at their tea party later on. Overall, I favor Julie Andrews and the special effects, while the basic plot is disposable.
thanks for uploading this one! i take singing lessons in school, and this is my "homework", and clumsy as I am, i've lost the notes and couldn't play it on piano, so thank you!
The words are happy but the minor key is sad. What is the underlying reason for the sadness? Is the life of a chimneysweep not all it's cracked up to be? Dick Vandike carries the melody ok, but it really takes off when Julie Andrews, a professional singer, joins in.
very deep, I personally love when the key and the lyrics are in conflict, it makes the song so much more interesting. Like the Ray Charles song "Bye Bye Love" the words are sad but it's in a major key lol
