  • @McLarenMercedes I totally agree. personally, I even tend to think that Prost also deserved the title in 1988 (having scored more points than Senna, 105:94).

  • @TheColinChapman

I think Prost deserved the 1984 title after his abysmal luck in 1982 and 1983. Then again luck came his way in 1986 with Mansell's puncture and Piquet's bad stop.

  • @McLarenMercedes either way your first statement was/is right. Senna would have retired in Monaco 1984, Bellof would have been (and WAS) disqualified. I think it is very likely that then Prost would have finished (going over the full two-hour-distance) first or second - which would have made Prost the 1984 champion.

  • @TheColinChapman

    Thanks I didn't know that.

Seems like the infamous collision between Piquet and Salazar in the German GP '82. Piquet was furious and attacked Salazar for robbing him of a win. After the race BMW checked the engine and discovered that it was a few laps from having a breakdown. So Salazar actually saved BMW from an embarrassing retirement from the lead on their home Grand Prix.

When Piquet learned of this he immediately called Salazar and "apologized".

  • @McLarenMercedes I disagree. On lap 14 in this race, Senna trundled very heavily over the cerb in the harbour chicane and damaged his right front suspension. Senna stated afterwards that he already could see his right front wheel moving backwards and forwards under braking (evidence: Heinz Prüller's "Grand Prix Story 1984"). The Toleman wouldn't have lasted 5 more laps. Many people purport that red flag stole Ayrton his first F1 victory. This is not true. In fact, it saved him a second place.

    Here's another IF.

If Jacky Ickx didn't decide to flag the rainy Monaco GP to an early halt it would have gone the entire distance. Senna would no doubt have won, and Prost would have gotten 6 points for 2nd, rather than 4,5 for a win for half the distance. Forget about Bellof, Tyrrell got all their results nullified by the end of the year due to their cheating with the weight.

This IF, would have made Prost the champion by 1 point in 1984, instead of losing it by half a point

    if if if

Raikkonen would have been champion in 2003 IF the rain didn't suddenly come in change his easy 1'st and Schumacher's 6'th to a win for Schumacher

Hunt was easily leading btw, when some puncture meant he needed an extra stop and he was down to 6'th.Then he chased and overtook as many as he could in these dreadful conditions to finish a great third in monsoon conditions

Btw, he was gifted the 1977 title instead when Andretti's Ford engine kept braking down. If indeed...

  • care to correct your statement after massa's crash and eventual comeback?

  • would've won '76 if it weren't for the rain
