ICSCC Race #10 Pacific Raceways Group 1 Jim Cissell #319 mid pack.mov

This is a 30-minute sprint race in ICSCC Group 1 at Pacific Raceways in Kent WA July 31, 2011. I run in the Pro 3 class, Jim Cissell #319. There were 30 cars in class and about 50 in the group. I was gridded 19th overall and finished 16th but was DQ'ed for being 7 pounds underweight. Helpful hint--don't weigh until the next race starts, unless you are required to.

I had a fantastic race with Rob Johnston, Jason Vein, Frank Greif, and Dick Whittemore. Dick ran a great race. I only got by him when he wagged his tail in turn 6. See 8:12 in the video. I only got by Frank when he got blocked out by Ryan O'Connor. See 10:17. And Frank re-took the lead in a great side-by-side pass in turn 2 eleven laps later. See 27:31. I had a good run at Jason Vein from 18:32 to 25:13 but could never catch him. That silver BMW station-wagon-thing sure got in the way--15:38 to 16:47.

My fastest lap was 1:40.664, and I had 9 laps under 1:42, whereas my previous best at PR was 1:42.5 last August. Best of all, I never went off track in the Sunday race and only went off once during the German Challenge Race--going side by side with a Porsche through turn 5A when I hit the diff fluid. I credit that to the day of coaching with Ryan Hieronymous at the Test and Tune on Friday. Thanks, Ryan!

As you can see, with its huge grids and equally matched cars, Pro3 represents some of the tightest fender-to-fender racing in the Pacific Northwest.
