  • How much of their music actually has saxophone in it? When playing live, do they just replace parts by a keyboard with the saxohpone?

  • Actually most of the time Dr. Mikannibal was singing but the saxophone was mostly used to replace other brass instruments but there are quite a few songs with saxophone on the Hail Horror Hail through Imaginary Sonicscape.

  • Reminds me of blackened NWOBHM, in other words, awesome :)

  • genre bending metal done RIGHT

  • In a Drowse

  • excellent. i'm afraid i missed damnation festival =/ was in school and stuff. Scenes from Hell will be pretty cool, though i've not looked into much press info on the concepts behind this one and what to expect sound wise.

  • I got to see them last September in Toronto with Unexpect. One of the best shows I've ever been to. Can't wait for their new album "Scenes From Hell" coming out this year.

  • they were planning to do a US tour with mayhem (which given their latest album really could have been quite something), but it got canceled due to an injury which Hellhammer received (or something). never the less I think in recent years it's simply become more realistic for them to play shows - Mirai has often said that being located in Japan is a massive geographical disadvantage and problem for him. They'll be around soon my friend.

  • the confusion with genres often begins because people can't distinguish a genre description from a genre scene. avant-garde is such an obscure style that it won't ever get that kind of mainstream attention - one of the nice things about that is there won't ever be a flame war about what category they fall into. avant-garde music truly is the music of creative originality, and with showcases like damnation festival i think that's as big as it ever needs to get.

one of my top bands too :)

  • I guess it is a matter of luck, and also the fact that I'm not updated much about England is because it's not quite so cheap to get to from my situation. Shame.

I do hear great stories tough, Despair in the Womb

  • Exactly, you catch the drift. Hence why it's my No. 1 favourite band, too?

Looking around, people seem to make so much fuss about what genre this band is.. and then start to try and redefine what the genres mean.

Avant Garden is just simply set, experimental. Working with different ideas and sounds that are less common in the music industry, trying out new and extroardinary things to redefine the new standard of music.

Not all of it be so succesfull =p but it's a valiant

    effort

  • that is essentially the essence of avant-garde music and it's why i love it. :)
