You probably would've gotten a B rank had you not used an item on Secret Mission 2. Also, there was another Secret Mission if you went down the hallway when Phantom comes back and if you go back to the room that has Carnival (the airplane) and go back down the lift where you fought the Marionettes.
Also, are you aware of Sword Canceling? It makes it so you can get more hits on Nelo Angelo before he recovers from his hit stun.

I probably could have gotten a B rank. I was weary of failing if I didn't though. I got a B before though, after completing the other one. This was before I could beat all the Secret Missions. (to this day only Secret Mission 1, which I haven't attempted for a while)
Also, yes. It helped me against him when first fought him, though I didn't think to use it this time.
