On Sunday, July 18th, a walking festival called Poor Pilgrim was held on the Toronto Island, an oasis of lush terrain and open lake waters with a cultural eco-system far-removed from the urban sprawl to its north.

Throughout the day, we followed Sari and Romy Lightman, twin sisters that make up the group Tasseomancy, to their eventual open-air venue on the tiny, neighbouring Snake Island.

Their set began with the final rays of dusk and ushered in a distant thunderstorm, blankets of sheet lightning backing up the flickering rays from a Gysin-styled Dream Machine, constructed by resident island installationist Yuula Benivolski.

Sari and Romy's music has haunted us since our session with them for La Blogotheque and NxNE, and you should expect many more projects with them in the near future.

Here they sing "Soft Feet", a track from their upcoming "In A Glass Darkly" LP.

  • Yes, bringing in the Dream Machine. It's good the see/hear the legacy of Gyson, Burroughs, et. al. in conjunction with this beautiful music!

  • Beyond gorgeous.

  • @KazooDog awesome sounds like the kind of thing my hero kurt cobain would say. i just read his journals, so good.

  • @KazooDog You have indeed described some shitty music, and it sounds like you are referring to rap or something, that is indeed made by men. You are forgetting pretty much all good music out there is also made by men. Female artists are generally crap, but this is some of the worst of it.

  • its not about making it big

  • This reminds me a lot of some Joanna Newsom stuff. They're absolutely mesmerizing, especially live.

  • hmmm playing their haunting songs in front of a dream machine. these girls really know how to put you in a trance.

  • They're so hilarious in their live shows! A must see, fantastic performance.

  • the airplane flys over and doplers into key....goose bump shivers. i almost passed out. this is top notch.

  • It's like they can entertain my soul
