Playing at The Venetian in Las Vegas nightly 6-10 p.m., Valeri Glava surprised us (we were tourists just passing through) with his amazing ability to read a crowd and play accordingly. So, you might hear the Korean national anthem, or, as the case with us with this Santana excerpt, he can read your mind and come up with one of your favorites. As an albeit amateur violinist and fiddler, I was not only astounded with his virtuosity, but also his generosity in speaking to my husband and me during a break about his repertoire, past venues, how to best mike my violin, and so much more. Count us now as avid fans!
Who else but Valeri Galeva would put together Carlos Santa's "Oye Como Va" with "O Solo Mio" with such finesse. At the Venetian in Las Vegas, August 29, 2010.
