Excerpted here is the first movement, "Ondine", from Gaspard de la nuit. For pianists, the whole suite is intoxicating in its beauty and replete with pianistic challenges. Richard Bosworth did this in Lincoln Center at Alice Tully Hall on October 9, 2005 as part of a larger event which included internet broadcasting and live chat.

  • Played far too loudly. 90% of this should be pianissimo and delicate sounding.

  • This was recorded with very close microphone placement.

  • Certainly worth four and a half stars. This is one among many competent readings of this score, but it's not among the very best.

I agree with whomever it was that said it was mostly too loud. It WAS all on one dynamic level more or less, and while it was well articulated, it lacked the expressive nuances given by such as Guelsin Onay, Christopher Shih, Rupert Egerton-Smith, Michelangeli, De Larrocha and others.

Mr. Bosworth's fine personal appearance helps his performance a great deal.

  • wow

  • then turn your volume down!

Personally, I think bosworth is excelent.

  • I can't see the splashing water.

  • There's at least 10 wrong notes.

  • I particularly like this video for many reasons, but strangely enough it's not mentioned that many times about the "taking a bow" and the grace that has to be administered, and not to much but just enough. It's an interaction of the artist with the audience. Richard Bosworth has this down and master it! Love the piano piece also and have watched it many times!

  • If you can play it more piano, just play and record it...I would like to watch a video of someone playing best than Richard Bosworth...I think he plays it with a lot of feeling and the technique is brilliant!
