HELP ERADICATE FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION!!!! Support GIRLS PROTECTION ACT (H.R. 5137)
Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is an extremely dangerous, inhumane, and medically unnecessary procedure that affects nearly 170,000 girls and women in the United States, and 140 million around the world. FGM is currently illegal in this country under federal law, but Congress must do more to ensure this barbaric destruction of female genitalia -- which can lead to death -- is permanently and completely eradicated. U.S. Reps. Mary Bono Mack (R-Calif.) and Joseph Crowley (D-N.Y.) have recently introduced the Girls Protection Act (H.R. 5137) which would make it a crime to transport minors outside the U.S. for the purpose of performing FGM.

E-mail your members of Congress today and urge them to support this important legislation. Insist that they advocate for the passage of the Girls Protection Act (H.R. 5137).

Please compare like actions: male circumcision leaves intact the possibility of enjoyable life, has a comparibly low chance of infection, and leaves no enduring pain. I don't condone it, but it is nothing like the complete desecration of a person's body and sexuality in the way that female mutiliation is. Left behind by this torture is a scarred human being who will have to live with unending pain the rest of her life, in simple acts of going to a restroom, not to mention intimate relations...

@LaNeeCollard not true, I've heard of genitally mutilated women who say they LOVE sex. Ive hears genitally mutilated men complain about how they don't enjoy sex. You're being ethnocentric in believing that mutilating boys is less evil than mutilating girls. They're both evil. And only stupid and or evil people so it to their kids.

We have no moral highground in allowing the mutilation of our boys while simultaneously denouncing the mutilation of girls.

The exact same excuses used to mutilate girls in Africa are the same as ones used to mutilate boys anywhere else. It's ethnocentric to believe that the genital mutilation of girls so that they may be accepted by husbands is any less horrific than the mutilation of boys for the aesthetic appeal of their wives.
