On July 31, 2009 a friend and I visited the Royal Gorge Bridge in Colorado. It started out as a clear beautiful day, but suddenly a late afternoon storm moved in. Although it did not rain, the winds were pretty intense as seen in this video. And yes, we did walk across it (for the third time that day) during the high winds. It reminded me of my Navy days and walking around the ship during rough seas. Or maybe like those times when I drank too much.

  • Wow the bridge was swaying. I didn't realize it was that kind of bridge. I can't wait to drive across this one day.

  • @chwparker You can drive across the bridge but I would suggest walking if possible. If you drive stay alert, it is narrow and there are lots of people wandering around, some not paying attention. If you are the driver, you won't be able to site see.

  • @lbfreder I haven't been to the Gorge since '87. My father was scared to attempt the cable car across it. We drove on the bridge. I think we were barely moving (10 mph if that much).

I don't remember if we felt the bridge swaying. I do remember it wasn't that windy that day (July '87).

  • i work here so if there are any questions just ask

  • I live about 11 miles from the bridge. This was AFTER they added cables to reduce sway... I never realized just how much it DOES sway. I've been on it many times and havent fell of yet :)

  • Oh my gosh, that is thoroughly scary! :) You may also enjoy my video of a mechanical incident on the aerial tram on my channel.

  • @chwparker i did and it was less scary then walking across when u could see through the cracks
