  • I would prefer he would leave Boris alone.

Here his shortcomings are noticeable. Further, for us Russian speakers, it is immediately noticeable that his Russian is not idiomatic. Pity for a singer to expose it,especially a singer who made a carieer from Russian folk songs, where he managed to sound much more convincing in Russian.

  • @nicolashrv Hey, if you come by any of those unearthed treasures of Rebroff... please, contribute here on youtube... =) you will bring joy to thousands of fans I'm sure!

  • @vesnatesna His voice is great for Rossini's "I'l barbieri de Sevilla", that kind of roles in particular suit him best. If you found out about his Berlin years, he gave concerts every single day, for almost 10 years straight (that's right, not a single show cancelled, not even sunday or saturday, ALL days, for 10 years).

Its hard to find, cos actually, its hard to find lots of things on recordings. I found recently one DVD by deutsche gramaphon, The Gypsy Baron.

  • @nicolashrv Btw...Mark Reizen had one specific...if very Un-operatic tone...and i still find him to be the best bass when it comes to dramatic roles... i loved his mephisto too =)

  • @nicolashrv I didn't know he was Berlins lead singer...since it's so hard to find opera performances where he had a role... I love Rebroff's personality and stage appearance, even if he's an insufficient Boris (Godunov). He's kind of heavy for buffo roles, dont you think? Hes voice is very original and i'd keep it the way it is... even if it doesnt really fulfill the roles as well as i had hoped for (i have his opera compilation disc).

  • @vesnatesna Thats cos people think "opera tone" means you have to sing only like Christoff or Hines.

Rebroff was an outstanding performer, and he was perfect for the Buffo parts, like in Rossini operas. Not to mention he was great as Mephistopheles. Not just because he was the lead singer of the Berlin opera for 10 years.

  • do you have vous qui faites l'andormie with Ivan Rebroff?

  • Pozor,kakoi diletant.

  • @OscarLevant1 Mussorgsky with added "pop-corn" value =) Rebroff never really had the tone for opera, but he's a fun chap
