Maunsell S15 class No.E828 seen far away from the sunny south on the Settle & Carlisle in 1994. The loco put in a solid performance over the route and the northbound run shown here was the first ever visit to the line by a member of this class. In 1996 she was named Harry A Frith in honour of the former Eastleigh Works Erecting Shop Foreman.
The opening scene shows the train climbing steadily to Horton in Ribblesdale, then at Lunds Paddock and finally just after leaving Appleby. The video was filmed in Super VHS.

  • Very nice production Austin. Despite the time, the video is still great quality. This locomotive is it still in service ?

    Regards. Philippe

  • Merci Philippe. Non, la locomotive est sous la réparation à long terme a ce moment

  • Another superb production Austin, you certainly get the best out of this vintage material, thanks for putting in the work for the rest of us to enjoy...Bob

  • Thanks Bob, I was glad I uploaded this one as a lot of people don't seem to have known that she ventured that far north. It was a very respectable performance over the line.

  • Sight to see, Steam on the setle Carlisle, well captured

  • Thanks very much, pleased you enjoyed it.

  • Thanks very much Noel, there is the odd spot still where you can escape the crowds. I have always loved the train in the landscape type of shot be it still or video so I guess it sneaks into my videos quite a lot.

  • Nice one Austin. Some of the best Super 8 I've seen, mainly due to your first class camera work. I do like your long "train in the landscape" shots. Also noticeable is the lack of the crowds we see in today's footage. Lovely. Noel.

You must be a lot more determined than I am! My Movie-Maker stuff either saves as 4:3 (and sometimes won't) or you go without! I don't feel like coping with mastering more software (especially as we are trying to learn Welsh!!). Good on you, though - the results are very impressive. . . . Alan

  • Thanks Keith, I've read quite a lot into that thank you! Sadly we can't stop the clock ticking, best to make sure we enjoy every damned minute we have.
