  • Interesting that the Midianites were directly related to the Hebrews and held some of the traditions about Abraham. Was Moses not married to a Midianite woman, the daughter of Jethro, the Priest of Medianite

  • @allsaintsmonastery That's right. Jethro (or Reuel, depending on where you read) was Midianite. Another interesting note is that in a theophany described in the hymn of Habbakuk 3, Yahweh is described as coming from Teman, Mt. Paran, Cushan and Midian. Similar theophanies appear in Judges 5, Deuteronomy 33, and Psalm 68. It appears that Moses and Yahweh worship may have some Midianite origins. Frank Moore Cross details evidence which may support this in chapter 3 of "From Epic to Canon".

  • Great to see you making videos on the DH, Father Graceful. At the beginning, I was going to search for what the DH would say about those variations.

My favorite part of the DH is how Isaac was treated. In the J, he gets married, has kids, and has a long life. In E, he apparently gets sacrificed but was resurrected by a J-style redaction. In E, Abraham comes down from the mountain alone and Isaac never appears again.

  • @8WholeThing I have noticed that Genesis 22 is another passage where, in its original form, Yahweh seems to have approved of human sacrifice. Once I've finished reading through the Hebrew Bible, I think I'll read through the individual sources.

  • Excellent video Rev Violent!

  • @wayman29 Thank you, sir.

  • It is important to understand what "the man of the spear" or "man of the Javelin" happens to be in the Hebrew language...

    M-E-T-H-U-S-E-L-A-H...

The wisest of the Bible - referred throughout the Pentateuch - from Genesis to Deuteronomy!

The Greatest Secret of the Bible.

Who was the very important young man?

  • Great that someone has actually woken up to the reality of the theological construction of the OT/Old Pentateuch.

With every single name it has to be looked at very carefully.

Yes, Moabites & Midianites indicates editorship of two traditions.

"Plague" means spiritual plague not any literal plague.

    "Plague" refers to spiritual component.

    Peor = Peni-Or or Peni-Hor or Peni-Horeb "Face of" + "Horeb".

Baal as in Balak & Balaam.

It is important to understand who the important young man was!

  • @Krazy2DKore Thanks. I am a minister in the Universal Life Church, after all. At this point, the only religious institutions I'd make it into are the Quakers or Unitarian Universalists. I'd balk at the doctrinal statements of any other Christian denomination.
