Turning ten has never been so overwhelming! DOUBLE DIGITS follows a a group of ten-year-olds as they navigate the turbulent waters of the fifth grade. When power is abused for treacherous ends, the students at Brookwood Elementary must cast aside their differences to save themselves, and their school. DOUBLE DIGITS is a witty, heartfelt story complete with a gorgeous score, a fabulous cast, and thoughtful social commentary.

A New and Original Full-Length Musical by Abby Simons and Nathan Kersey-Wilson. Opening at The Florence Schwimley Little Theater on April 24th at 7:00pm.

Directed by Abby Simons, Musical Direction by Nathan Kersey-Wilson

Abby Simons is a BHS senior who has directed several past Berkeley High productions (Including "The Serpent"  for which she won the Gerard A. Larson award for excellence in Directing at the Lenaea Festival). In December of 2007 Abby began a songwriting project where she selected a viewer submitted song title at random and wrote a new composition every week for 35 weeks. Nathan Kersey-Wilson is a Senior at BHS and has performed with the multi-award winning Berkeley High Jazz Ensemble since his freshman year. He is also the proud creator and director of local R&B band "Funky Bus and The U-Turns." He started on the sax when he was nine and has since picked up many more instruments from the chimes to the accordion.

  • There are some parts that might be a bit much for the 6 year old. There are experiences that are probably pretty real to a fifth grader, like little boys discovering their equipment and such. It reminded me of how being that much closer to having been fifth graders themselves gave these young writers the upper hand in creating this story about the unique and interesting challenges and responsibilities involved in becoming a 10 year old. We as parents will learn from this.
