Your intentions are well-meaning, but way-off. Education starts with parents. The difference that any secondary school can make to a child with dysfunctional-can't-be-arsed-p
arents is minimal at best. The availability of knowledge and opportunity in this country has NEVER been better or more accessible. The children that complain about schools are nearly always the ones with parents that ensure there were plenty of Xbox games around to take up the time available for study, improvement & growth. -
Aye, here's a southerner's perspective.
I have a wishy washy art degree, realising it was almost completely useless I started to study maths: matrices, calculus, complex algebra, geometry, and other stuff, resulting in a maths A level. I still can't get a job, even though my knowledge of calculus (which has a billion and one uses) puts most other people with A level maths to shame.
I spend most of my life with my head in a book, then I can't get work through a lack of social skills, arse.

Hi, Im from Leicestershire and the school i go to does all the things you suggest. For example I did a Mechanic course throughout year 10 and 11 instead of French. Some of my friends did hair dressing and others construction. We also leave school at 16 and you can choose to stay on for an extra two years or you can go college where you learn plumbing, electrics etc. I was just interested to see how it varys throughout the country.
I know this is unrelated but you totally look like a young Stan Kirsch O_O fyi he played Richie Ryan in Highlander.
But in all seriousness @Stresemannite : What do you think about all of the education drama within the uk? (About History/Geography possibly be mandatory until age 16, the possible phasing out of the AS level and of course the scandal with the exam board). How would one cope with a curriculum that's always changing?

@beautifullychaos I think history and geography are important culturally, but they should not be forced on people who might want to enter a science or mathematics further down the line. As for AS levels, they are kind of irrelevant, I think college should be promoted as a stepping stone for university or a place to learn some vocational experience. The exam boards need re-structuring...exams need meaning, a basis in the real world. The curriculum should be altered by teaching committees.

You spend 11 years in expensive schools and you walk out knowing a few things about anodes and cathodes.
The education system is broken by design in Britain, its not accidental the amount of people that leave knowing little regardless of the amount of GCSE's they picked up. These pieces of paper are worthless.
I think some vocational qualifications could be taught at school and certainly more life skills like managing your accounts or learning about buying houses.
I could go on...

Hi Stressmanite,
Firstly i just want to congratulate you on these series of video's. For someone so young, you have spoken with a good insight into some of social and economic problems facing your community.
It makes me question the ability of your political and economic leaders to find real solutions to how education can have an real impact on helping people realise their potential. There seems to be a real lack of imagination and thought on the issue.
