  • How much sugar? And can you use other fruit?

  • Sugar is half the weight of the fruit and yes, you can use other fruit, and other spirits as well. We have blackberry vodka, cherry vodka and raspberry gin on the go at the moment as well

  • Did you pick the berrys local to Sunniside? I live in Stanley and find Blackthorn quite rare around the North East. I've done 1 bottle so far this year, I think i'll wait a few weeks to pick more.

  • The sloes in the video were picked in Cambridge at the end of August. I was picking sloes in London in mid August as well. The North East is a few weeks behind. I was in Sunniside Park over the weekend however (12-13 Sept) and noticed that the sloes were just about ripe so my reckoning is that we can start picking them now around Sunniside.

  • One of my roommates stole a bottle of Sloe Gin from a random party. He returned it. Literally tasted like Dumbledore's dildo... Believe me, I'd know.

  • Love your videos!!!! They're really helpful :)

  • can you freeze the sloes instead of pricking them

as the water expands it bursts the skin?

  • That's rubbish about not using the best gin, If you use cheap gin you get a poor result. I always use Bombay Sapphire or Gordons.

  • Hi im going to make my first jin tthis year but ive heard people say freeze the sloes instead and i have to say it it sound much easier, is there any reason why i shouldnt.

  • Good video , in 2001 I did 3 1 gallon Demi Johns of sloe gin, after 6 months I bottled 1 Demi John left 2 Demi johns in the attic for another few months and sadly forgot about them. Found them October 2nd 2010 , OMG! I highly recommend to leave sloe berries in Demi John for over 5 years! It has rich brandy colour and it's taste is one if a kind, WOW! I've done a few more Demi Johns with sloe gin this year and have stored them in my attic. I have in total 9 bottles from my 2001 batch and will k
