Gopher tortoise relocation effort in Central Florida. Under authorization by permit from the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission, a population of the threatened gopher tortoise (Gopherus polyphemus) was excavated from burrows underlying a property slated for development. The population was relocated to a gopher tortoise preserve which will remain undeveloped under conservation easement in perpetuity.
