It's always seemed to me that Yahara Sensei's approach to karate has always been more about effective technique trumping controlled technique. If you watch the video for his 8th dan examination, or any of his kumite, there's little control in his karate. He's always looking for Ikken Hisatsu, no chance of letting his opponent walk away.
i don't know... i think i agree with eyehunter. never trained with Yahara sensei though. he is one great sensei and i've heard a lot about him through the years. I believe that Kase sensei's approach was much deeper and powerfull. his stabillity was unreal. of course i would like to train with Yahara if i have the chance and he certainly has my outmost respect.
@eyehunter I know what you mean but have you seen the mat he is on. Also he is "pulling it" on this demo, so the impact when he let it go properly would no doubt give him stability. I only say this as I have trained with him a few times and seen him on a gym floor. Its impressive - on the other hand when I tried it I looked like i was drunk!!
with all great respect, I find each time yahara sensei performs this kaiten technique, he loses balance. Seems to me this technique is more for self-training than for actual application.
