Refuge Denied is the debut album by the band Sanctuary, who disbanded in 1991 (partially reforming as Nevermore).

This was the only album to feature extremely high pitched, layered vocals from vocalist Warrel Dane. It has been speculated that Dane injured himself in the making of Refuge Denied, due to the change in vocal style in his subsequent work.

It was produced by Megadeth vocalist and guitarist, Dave Mustaine.

"White Rabbit" is a cover version of a Jefferson Airplane song and Dave Mustaine performed the guitar solo on it.

Track listing:

1. "Battle Angels" (Sean Blosl, Dane) 4:30
2. "Termination Force" (Rutledge, Dane, Jim Sheppard) 3:49
3. "Die for My Sins" 3:37
4. "Soldiers of Steel" 5:24
5. "Sanctuary" 3:54
6. "White Rabbit" (Grace Slick) (Jefferson Airplane cover) 3:07
7. "Ascension to Destiny" 4:52
8. "The Third War" 3:47
9. "Veil of Disguise" 5:43

  • "During the recording of "Refuge Denied" Dave Mustaine drank all day long and drugged all night long. He used to fall asleep just on the top of the mixing machine due to the state of intoxication" - Sean Blosl

I guess thats the way to create an amazing album...

  • @MusicJamin330 *mixing

  • @rokarollaphh I thought it was pretty good actually. I like the power that the drums have on this album and the tone that this album has was pretty razor sharp. The mxong could have been better, That I can agree on, but as far as the overall production, I think it sounds pretty powerful. The drums hit you like a ton of bricks. Just my opinion though.

  • Mustaine's production on this album is epic fail but Sanctuary;s music is still great!!!

  • Great underrated metal band! I saw them twice in 1988 opening for Megadeth then Testament. Great live band! Their second album "Into the Mirror Black" kicked ass as well!
