Dvorak (arr: Ed Schütt): 'Indian Canzonetta' (from Op. 100)

This piece (also sometimes known as 'Indian Lament') is the second movement of Dvorak's Violin Sonatina, Op. 100. Edouard Schütt's very faithful transcription dates from 1916, and was probably commissioned by Simrock, who was Dvorak's own publisher. The piece works surprisingly well as an independent piano solo.

did Dvorak write this when he was in America? It doesn't sound quite like his other pieces.

Yes - he wrote it in 1893 in New York - the last piece he wrote in America. It was a movement of his violin sonatina written for his children to play but the 'Indican Canzonetta' title was added later by his publishers as an aid to marketing!
