Neat ... at 44 minutes or so in ... they talk about Cyril Guimar (sp?) who had the green jersey ... This was the man who later went on to coach Hinault and Fignon in the 80s. Interesting how great cyclists beget other great cyclists.

The spectator that punched Merckx around 1:12:25 should have been cut into pieces with a chainsaw while alive. What a total waste of skin.

@nightowl8936 He also coached LeMond too. Helped him with his saddle height, gaining him more power in the process. Great insight as a coach.

To witness the magnificence of Merckx's athleticism go to 50:18 where he is time trialing in the 72 tour. He looks like a superfit cheetah or gazelle. You can see from the thickness of his leg muscles he had an uncommon power to weight ratio that allowed him to dominate both sprinting, climbing and when powering big gears at high speed out over the flats in time trials and breakaways. He was a combination of great natural gift, dedication and determination, and had supportive parents early on.

i m 57 years old , so i may say that i have seen the victory s of Merckx , but i wasn t a fan .

he won a lot of big races , but when he lose , it was allways somebody s fault .All the great ones before and after him , gave some little victory to servants .he want it all , in some classical races , he loses .He has a great record but when he wasn t so arrogant the end hasn t come in 75 in the tour .He could not accept that other riders win , allways him and not another
